Youtube Launches Creator’s Playbook: No More Crappy Content?

The quality of the content is very much a key part of attracting quality advertisers, and Youtube is starting to raise the bar on content.

Creators Playbook YoutubeGone are the days when grainy, amateur videos dominated Youtube. Today, much of the content on Youtube seems to be produced by people who have Hollywood-type production budgets—sort of.  Whilst the occasional mobile upload of a baby laughing still goes viral, Youtube is now encouraging producers to ramp up their efforts.

In an effort to encourage the creation of higher quality content, Youtube has made available what is dubbed the ‘Creator’s Playbook’.  The 70 page guide outlines the approach producers should take when making videos for youtube, as well as what sort of features they can use to make their videos stand out. The comprehensive guide is broken down into 3 sections covering, Programming & Producing, Publishing & Optimization, and Community & Social Media.

There is, however, a caveat. Youtube is making it very clear that use of the playbook does not constitute in any way a guarantee of success. The playbook is really just a guide on what Youtube considers ‘best practices’. Still, a reference guide is useful and should help struggling Youtube producers get their videos noticed.

Youtube has been an outlet for people who otherwise wouldn’t have one. Indeed, Youtube can be considered the vanguard of the online video revolution. Let’s just hope that the Creators Playbook is not a harbinger of a more ‘commercial’ focused Youtube. User-generated content is what built Youtube and it would be a shame if it started to favor the bigger video producers.

Watch the video below to see an example of the type of high quality content Youtube is looking for.

How to View Blocked Content on Facebook

There is an interesting post on XDA developers here recently covering tricks posted by Marko on how to view blocked content on Facebook private profiles.

The trick is said to be working on Android devices with official Facebook app installed, granting access on viewing Facebook private content and pictures of anyone’s as if they have added you as friends.

Unpermitted and illegitimate access to anyone’s Facebook profile and viewing content that are meant for friends only is undoubtly unacceptable to us, as we write this we have yet to try out the trick but many has responded success on the forum thread in prying on the blocked content. We at Pczonenow are hoping it will not do much harm as perverts are everywhere Lol.

Following is the trick as shown on XDA forum thread here by Marko:

The first step is to make sure that you have Facebook installed on your phone. Now log into your account. After this tap on the person’s profile pic whose hidden content e.g. photos you want to see.And as their profile is still loading, quickly tap on the photos tab.And voila! you are now in that person’s photo gallery with access to all their photos. It is worth mentioning that you will need to do it quickly while the profile is loading. Failing to do so will land you on the info page with same add as a friend button.

Twitter Plans Massive Clean-up With New Obscene Content Warning

Twitter is wholesome, healthy, and filled with not-safe-for-work (NSFW) content. The problem with that is that there are no clear lines separating the types of content at the moment. All that is set to change.

Twitter Content WarningTwitter is planning to add a designation that will let users flag content as inappropriate. Under the new system, a flag will trigger a warning message that will help people make an informed decision before clicking a link. The goal is to save people the trauma or trouble of following a link to something that is downright inappropriate or in direct violation of their work policies.

According to Twitter representative, Carolyn Penner, users will be able to flag their own content, as well as those of other users. All video and photo links will be subject to the new warning feature, and third party sites like Instagram and TwitPic, will have to update their streams.

So far users seem quite receptive about the new feature, which is very good news for Twitter. At least they won’t have to worry about user revolts. Given the obvious security vulnerabilities with the platform, the last thing Twitter needs is an upset user base.

The new feature isn’t fully on stream yet, but developers have been given the necessary details on how to incorporate it, using the Twitter API. Users will have to wait a while before things are fully functional, so the word on the web is that one should still “click carefully”.

Do you think the new feature will help make Twitter handle obscenity? Have your say in the comments below.

Indowebster is Aiming at Legal Content

Indowebster known as the most popular providers of file storage in Indonesia will explore legal content to change the paradigm that has been attached. As talks between founder Indowebster, Juny “Acong” Maimun, and Vivanews, the first categories that will get a legal content is music and antivirus.

Later, for each musician, will be displayed two versions of the content, legal and illegal. Legal version is paid with good quality content, while the illegal version of course is not guaranteed the quality and authenticity. As for antivirus, Indowebster cooperate with Avira for antivirus subscription at an affordable price.

Acong, who previously was a hacker, theorized, “In the online world, the user should not be forced to buy. But how can they be willing to buy.” The provision of legal and illegal content simultaneously is unusual, but it can encourage users to slowly transform. In addition to content issues, Indowebster also relaunch its website since July 9 yesterday and planned to be full launch in August. You can access the new version of the site in http://v5.indowebster.com/.

I think many people on the Internet who feel that all content can be obtained for free, but the education is how to build an appreciation for intellectual property rights with personal awareness to pay for something that is worthy to be bought by users. I personally for example, already accustomed to appreciate some good work with developers by bought it because I think the work is worthy to be bought at a price that is displayed.

Currently Indowebster already have more than 1 million registered users with 60TB used capacity accommodated in 300 servers. Acong targeted the number will double within the next 1.5-2 years. File types that are accommodated in Indowebster vary from movies, music, photos, practically anything that can be downloaded and uploaded via the Internet. Until now Indowebster still claim 100% owned by Indonesia, despite many offers from foreign investment.

The thing that may still make Indowebster comfortable transforming slowly, rather than making rapid progress, is a regulation that is still gray and the less fierce association. In the United States itself, claims against providers of file-sharing services already consume a lot of “victims”. Call it the Napster and Limewire are both already forced to shut down. Even now there is an ongoing lawsuit against HotFile from Hollywood MPAA film association.

Things like this are like double edge sword. On the one hand, education of users is still very low, but on the other side of the government and associations [as copyright owners] do not seem to matter [in the positive sense] to promote awareness of intellectual property rights. Measures such as Indowebster service providers who started this educational initiative deserve our appreciation and support.
